Job Description

A well-established law firm in Albany, New York is seeking a knowledgeable and client-focused Trust and Estate Attorney to join its growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience handling estate planning, probate, and trust administration, with the ability to provide thoughtful legal counsel to individuals, families, and fiduciaries.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on estate planning strategies, including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care proxies.
  • Handle trust and estate administration, including probate proceedings, asset distribution, and tax filings.
  • Counsel fiduciaries on their duties and responsibilities, including guidance on trust management and estate settlement.
  • Represent clients in Surrogate’s Court proceedings and other related legal matterss
  • Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and develop strong client relationships with professionalism and discretion.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas, including real estate, tax, and corporate, to support client needs.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • 3–7 years of experience in trust and estate law, estate planning, or probate administration.
  • Strong drafting skills and a solid understanding of estate and gift tax laws.
  • Experience with elder law, Medicaid planning, or guardianships is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and client service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with integrity and discretion.
